Wondering if a spud gun could be an alternative vehicle to the traditional bait casting to get my line out .If so advice as to which gun would be more suitable to fit this task . Id be satisfied with a football field away as far as distance is concerned.casting my line out with a spud gun would be so much cooler and james bond like.

Of course you could! You could build either a combustion or a pneumatic. The launcher could be kept small since it's primary function is to shoot lead sinkers. You'll likely need a sabot for you're bait and sinker to create a good seal in the barrel.

I would suggest pneumatic with a compressed air canister for more shots. Other wise you are going to have to refill the tank on a regular pneumatic after each shot, with either a large storage tank or small (noisy) compressor. Bad part is compressed air carries a higher price tag vs the next to nothing cost of a simple air cannon.

I am sure it would work, however using live bait may not be a great idea!!!

I also want to build a gun to send my 4oz. - 6oz. sinker and cut bait out 200 yds into the surf. I think the sabot idea will work as long as you can keep it attached to your line so not to litter the water. I am new to any type of spudguns. What type and material for a gun that could launch the sabot out that far? C02 power? Remember I need to cary this gun down to the beach with my fishing gear. Can't take a compressor to the beach. Please any thoughts may help, or do you know of someone who I could contact for some info? Thanks, Skeeter.
