Will a 1" sprinkler valve be able to handle about 400 cu. in. of compressed air? Will/Should I modify it to be pneumatic? Or will the electric version open just as fast?

the size of your chamber doesnt really matter, what does matter is how high the PSI will be

and yes you should modify it to be pneumatic, for 1 its only a few dollars more than electric considering you need 3 9volts to run it electric...and it doesnt wear out....AND its much faster

but what is the handle connected to the hose, is that the pneumatic switch/pump?

How does this replace the soleniod? How does it work?

That's a blowgun attached to the end of the hose. It's just a valve that opens when you press the handle. When you're not pressing the handle the valve springs shut.

Pressing the handle releases the air on one side of the diaphragm in the sprinkler valve and allows it to slam open. It's a lot faster than opening one electrically.

...need to pick up apoxy (to seal the soleniod spots), a blowgun, 4 or so feet of 1/2" hose, hose clamps, and two 1/2" threaded adapters.
