Guys- what do you use to measure your distances? I am shooting out into a wide open body of water (secluded) and the best idea I've found thus far is a GPS. Any other ideas?
much spuds to you all.

range finders such as that tell you the distance to the hole by measuring the size of the flag. It could work if you bought/"borrowed" a flag from a golf course and planted that where you fire from, then went to the point of impact and used that thing. This of course would be quite hard if you are firing into water, and I highly doubt that it would measure much farther than 250-300 yards.

Peace,

Almost nobody measures distances. Most people just make wild guesses, which usually turn out to be wildly optimistic.

I shoot out over water as well, and if I can get a volunteer, I'll send him out in a kayak with a gps and frs radio. He can paddle to the impact point and radio back the coordinates. That will work pretty well.

When I tested my golf ball launcher I just counted how many paces from where the ball landed (after I found it!) to the firing point. Then just measured how long my average stride is and did some math. That's if you can find a long enough empty field anyway! Sure it's a lot of walking, my farthest shot end up 346 yards away, but they are solid numbers instead of guesses!

it takes a while but works. Luckily i have a local gravel pit that i can go to which is perfect for spudgunning. All enclosed in its own little valley with nobody around and its around 500 yards long so its perfect.

only thing is it takes patiesnt pacing out that far lol.

Sorry No Text but there wasn't enough room for it in the title bar because of the LOL. But I couldn't just leave out the LOL because then you might think I was serious. It might work however, but that still would require an LOL because it just would. So actually there was text....even though it wasn't very important...LOL
