I let the pre meter part build pressure to say 20-30 psi, I then crack open the ball valve and this seats the air chuck valve. At this time the meter pipe will have about 10-14 psi in it. I then fill to the appropriate level (32psi for me). You usually dont lose propane, but occasionally if you put it on crooked(REALLY CROOKED) it will lose some propane, but it will still fire.
