Originaly posted by GalFisk,
I posted this in the end of a thread some time ago, I don't know if many noticed it, so here it is again, to get comments, and ideas and/or inspire people to make someting out of it.
Here are the pics of the gun I sketched up some time ago. Some details are wrong and/or doesn't correspond between the animated picture and the other, cause I was too lazy to change 20 frames of animation...
Also the cartridge eject hole should be placed so thet it ejects when the piston is fully pushed in. Ignition can be placed in the piston or the front wall of the chamber, fuel injection could be done near the venting hole at the same time as the piston is pulled back, to ensure a better fuel mixture.
The cartridges should have a spud knife in the front, and a corresponding inner bevel in the pipe it fits into should minimize the residue built up in the joint.
The cartridge might well be a little bit shorter than the room it fits into, as it will be pushed into the edge of the front pipe when the pressure rises behind it anyway, and doesn't need to fit tight. That will ensure that the cartridge falls out readily when it reaches the eject hole. If the cartridges is beveled on both sides, it will make the passage of the empty cartridge past the magazine easier.
It would be practical to connect the fueling mechanism to the handle in some way, so refueling is made with the same pump action and no extra movement is needed.
I don't know much about fuel metering, or how this is to be accomplished though.
I don't have many ideas about the actual construction of this gun (materials, dimentions etc) but I hope I can give somebody some good ideas with this.
If anybody builds a gun based on some of these ideas, I'd very much like to see pictures of the process and the result.
The loading mechanism is a modified version of the one in the 12 gauge recoil blowback at http://www.geocities.com/autoaircannon/
Here are the pics:
