i've built this spud gun and i'm using a butane lighter as a starter but it doesn't work unless you load the gun up and then let the whole thing sit overnight. in the morning it fires first go. any suggestions?

try using less fuel, try holding the can about a foot away and spraying, so all of it doesnt go into the gun. Try using just 1/2-2 seconds worth of fuel. Too much fuel will result in no combustion, and when you let it set overnight it probably has a chance for some of the fuel to escape. Let us know if this works.

this may possibly help, how big is your chamber? this may be why you are getting too much fuel. A small chamber with a large sray bottle will sometimes do that...
Or you could always go all out and spend the extra cash to get a LP metering device. but as for right now try less fuel and possibly get a fan to feed in fresh air AFTER you spray your fuel in. this will take some practice to get timeing right but it will be worth it if you can get it to work.
