. Lately I've seen several posts asking about the risks of going to higher pressures in PVC pipe. Some of it scares me. The manufacturers give a pressure rating, but specifically say NEVER USE PLASTIC PIPE FOR PRESSURIZED GAS.

. The reason behind that is this: Fluid is typically not compressible, so when a pipe fails under high pressure fluid, there isn't much expansion, and the pieces don't go flying. When a pipe fails under high pressure gas, there is LOTS of expansion, and lots of shrapnel.

. While I'm sure there is some margin of safety, how close do you really want to get to that?

. I come from a skydiving background, and I've seen what was once a very unregulated sport become very regulated mainly due to the actions of foolish people doing stupid things. Let's use some common sense and keep that from happening here too.
Do: Prepare your joints well.
Do: make sure you allow the full 24 hours to dry.
Don't: Destroy stuff that belongs to other people.
Don't: Shoot at people (a 4 ounce potato at 350 fps has as much energy as a 30.06 rifle bullet!)

While these things are toys, they are dangerous toys and should be treated with the same respect you'd give a loaded gun.

OK, I'll step down from my soapbox now...
