Do you know what the outer diameter of a sch 80 2in. piece of pvc pipe is. What diameter pipe would be a good choice, so that the sch 80 2in. pipe would fit in to it with little gap, but being able to slide in and out of the larger pipe easily.

Both 2in sch 80 and 2in sch 40 have an outside diameter of about 2.375.
The only pipe I have worked with that fits inside another pipe is 1.5in SDR21. It usually fits perfectly inside 2in sch 80. Because the inside diameter usually varies a bit it is not always guaranteed fit.
The last batch of 2in schedule 80 has a smaller inside diameter so the SDR21 would need to be sanded down to fit.
Here is a link to a chart from Cresline that gives pipe specs:
http://www.cresline.com/pdf/cresline/pvcpressurepipe&ftgs/pvc761lwhw.pdf
The outside diameters are usually very close but the insides vary. Sometimes they vary from one end of the pipe to the other with some brands of pipe. Cresline has been one of the most consistent brands of pipe that I have used so far. But my last order of 2in sch80 pipe was white instead of grey and the inside diameter was a bit smaller.
