Has anyone figured out how to launch a "luminary" spund? Maybe a lit sparkler in a spud? A tracer spud? I have in mind a nighttime display that would benefit from some sort of glowing, burning, or even expoding spud. Any ideas? |

Cut spud to fit gun then core a hole down though the middle (lengthwise) to fit a glo stick then core though the sides to let the light shine though. Never tired it but I don't see why it wouldn't work. |

I like the glow stick concept - I'll experiment with it! |

I have heard that you can take a glow stick and activate it in the usual manner then cut open the stick and pour the glowing fluid into a precut core in the tater prior to ramming down the barrel. Have not done this myself and it may be an urban myth of sorts but with a rifled barrel it is supposed to leave a tracer like glow behind as it spins out and away. |

Be careful. Rounds that do this kind of stuff are often illegal in the US. But, I knew a guy ![]() |

I suggest a bit of 4 ought (0000) steel wool, pierced with a wooden golf tee, then pushed into the base of a spud before punching the spud on the barrel knife. Any coarser that 0000 does not burn well, and the wooden golf tee is more "green" and less likely to puncture a tire or an animal foot when it ends up in a field, than say a galvanized roofing nail (which I started out using). Note that you have to work the pointy end of the tee through the steel wool - not difficult, but takes a few seconds longer that you first expect. |
