Hello, I sent an email or two to the website owner and got a reply sometime in 2012. I'm not sure if he'll remember me.
I did a project with a small air cannon in college. It was based on this reducing coupling http://www.mcmaster.com/#4881k742/=rg0fwd . It also has a teflon projectile, a solenoid valve and some schedule 80 pipe. It leaked a tiny bit so we filled the chamber slightly past 50 psi and fired when it hit 50. I'm not sure where the data is right now, but my group started with a long barrel and cut it shorter, taking velocity measurements. I'm pretty to the other two guys are glad to be done with the project and graduated, but I'm still interested and I still have the air cannon.
I don't have access to a university lab anymore so I'll have to buy a few tools to get this thing running again and giving velocity measurements. I guess these means I'll be asking about things like air compressors and a 12 volt power supply soon.
The goal of my project was to get as accurate a model of air cannon dynamics as I can so I can find the ideal dimensions for cannons that shoot actual potatoes. My theory matched my data better than any other model I could find, but that's not saying much.
